Professional Statement

My teaching philosophy reflects my personal values and of course the needs of my students. During my one-year teaching experience at Mwan Elementary School,  the only way to help students learn well is to apply Howard Gardner's eight multiple intelligences. When teaching one lesson, I had to add more learning objectives and incorporate them into verbal linguistic, logical mathematical, visual spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical rhythmic, Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Naturalistic Intelligence. According to Gardner, he believes that every individual human being has weaknesses and strengths in areas of learning and performing those multiple intelligences. However, I myself had some weaknesses and strengths in teaching those multiple intelligences. And when I took this course Audio Visual Education, I believe that Technology Teaching would be part of my teaching approaches, methods and strategies. I still need to learn more in order to fulfill the needs of the students.

HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY WORK WITH THE MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES?

Verbal Linguistics (“word smart”) Students can be verbally and linguistically intelligent by communicating with the computers using interactive googlesdocs, groups forums, interacting with a talking computer, and using free online educational tools to learn language and vocabulary words, grammar, word puzzle, spelling, Scramble words, and more.

Logical Mathematical (“number-and-pattern smart”) Students can become logically and mathematically intelligent by creating graphs, charts, calculations, tables, and other free online educational tools for mathematics and word problems.

Visual Spatial (“picture smart”) Students need to learn by seeing  visual objects. Thay can be visually intelligent by creating graphs, flow charts, and seeing actual pictures of objects. Students may pictures of the human-body system, the subsystems of the earth, plants, or any images and graphics they want to include in their schoolwork.

Bodily Kinesthetic (“body smart”) Students will be able to know how to monitor or operate the computer, how to print out papers, scanning pictures, and more.

Musical Rhythmic (“music smart”) Students will learn how to interact with different sounds and musics. Learn how to sing songs. Students can use earphones during individual study at a learning center to hear instructions or musics.

Interpersonal (“people smart”) Students will be able to interact with each other by communicating on the Chat, Forums, MSN, and sending Messages or emails, sending attachments to group mates of their work and uploading assignments to the teacher.

Intrapersonal (“self smart”) Each individual Student will become knowledgeable on how to operate the computer on their own without the teacher’s help. Students can select and create their own web page, Myspace, Yahoo account, do research on the Internet using different search engines.

Naturalist (“nature smart”) Students can explore other places around the world by searching them on the Internet using any search engines. This makes the world smaller.

They can also learn different kinds of animals, plants, and even the weather climates.

How do I use the Multiple Intelligences in teaching without the use of Technology?

I often applied the 8 multiple intelligences when I teach my 6th-grade students in language arts and Science in a way to help meet their individual differences and learning abilities. They have their strengths and weaknesses in the different learning content areas. Just like adults, we have our weaknesses and our strengths. Students applied the verbal linguitic intelligent when they are answering oral questions, do dialoque, oral presentations, spelling, participating in a problem solving disussion, identifying the cause the effect,  sharing daily routines, and etc. Sometimes I would put a story into a math problem for students to solve and that's the logical mathematical intelligence.
